Dear Colleen,

I recently broke up with a man I met three months ago and fell madly in love with.  However, he is twenty-two years older than I am, and he just decided a couple of weeks back to end our relationship, saying this was a problem.  I told him repeatedly it didn't matter, that I loved him, but in the end, he said I deserved someone better who was not as "broken and used up" as he feels.  But I knew he loved me despite what he said.  With my broken and rejected heart, I moved half-way across the globe to another country, hoping the distance would ease the pain and hurt.  How could I have changed his mind to see the love I want so much to give him?  Should I reach out and try talking with him again, or simply let the past go and move on?

Dear Meggie.

Sorry I took so long to answer this, Meggie. You made me cry, darlin. Love is so hard to find. You're lucky that you did and under no circumstances should you let it get away. Go get your man!

I really don't know how you could have changed his mind but it sounds like he is insecure about you. It's not easy to fix but you have to do everything you can to let him know how much you love him just the way he is. Reach out, Meggie. Slap the man across the face and tell him to knock it off. Life's too short to let true love go down the drain. My fingers are crossed for you. Just don't give up. Call him NOW.

Dear Colleen,

I have loved this boy since February last year. We had a lot in common so we became friends quickly but he started going out with another girl in April. Nobody had known he loved her; not even his best friend. After a few days he realized I loved him because I was crying a lot and all. Starting then, when I was sad, he always came and said he was sorry and that he didn't mean to hurt me. He said I'm his friend so he cares about me. Then he broke up with the other girl over the summer.

He started acting like he actually loved me. All my friends told me I better confess, so I decided to do it, in November. For several days I sent him love poems.

These days he still doesn't talk to me much but he keeps coming near me, although not as much as before. However when his mate is nearby I've noticed he gets meaner to me. I don't know what to do. What do all these mixed signals mean? Should I ask him to go somewhere with me, just the two of us? Should I confess one more time?

Answer:

Dear 15 in Coffs,

Gee, that was detailed.  I don't think it is necessary for you to confess how you feel anymore to him. He knows how you feel.  (and if he doesn't he's dumber than a bag of hair) It sounds like he doesn't know how HE feels. Love is a VERY strong word that most people throw around far too lightly. It sounds like he experienced this in his last relationship and doesn't want to go there again for awhile. You all have had plenty of alone time since you told him how you felt and wrote those poems. If he didn't step up to the plate then I doubt asking him to spend some alone time with you will work now. You need to move on. Why waste your love somewhere where it isn't returned? You're very young, darlin. Don't worry. True love will find you.

Sincerely,

Colleen

Dear Colleen,

Hi,  I have a new girlfriend that I really like and I want to give her a gift, not something that is to extreme, but something that she will really like. She likes cats, does that help you any?

Marty

Answer:

Dear Marty,

I think its great you want to get her something for her birthday. Maybe a charm bracelet with cute kittens on it? I am sure whatever you get her she will love it since its from you! Good luck!

Sincerely,

Colleen

That's it for now, I'll see you soon,

Colleen
