Advice and Gossip
With Toni & Jan
Jan McGee pulled up in Toni and Richie’s drive way. Toni was watering a planter on the front porch.
“You have so many flowers Toni, it’s really lovely here.”
“Well thank you Jan, come on in, I’ve got the wine in the fridge.”
Jan smiled, “I’m ready for it.”
“So what’s going on?” Toni asked. She knew something was Jan called asking if they could talk.
“A lot of things.Travis and I are having the barbeque, you know. It will be the first time we’ve entertained since moving here…I hope somebody will show up.”
“I know two that will, Richie is looking forward to it and so am I, I’ve heard you have a beautiful place.”
“It’s looking better now the flood did a lot of damage to the grounds.” Jan hesitated a minute. “There’s something else too.”
“Spill,” Toni took a sip of her wine.
“Travis and I are trying to have a baby.”
“That’s wonderful news Jan.”
“I’m not pregnant yet and that’s the problem. When I was 18 and just starting my modeling career I became pregnant and I had an abortion. I’m not sure I can carry a baby if I can get pregnant.”
“Well I’m going to ask the obvious, you have been to a specialist?”
“Two and got two different opinions.”
“Sounds like you need a third one. No honestly I would get a third and find somebody that is known in that field my gosh, Jan you’ve got the money for the best.”
“The money’s not the problem, Travis doesn’t know.” Jan took a drink and looked across Toni’s kitchen table.
“Oh…I see are you going to tell him?”
Jan sighed, ”I’m going to have to I guess, it’s hard, you know?”
“I do know, I’m sorry Jan but I also know keeping secrets even silly ones is not a good idea. I would be better if you told him than if some high dollar doctor told him in an impersonal office somewhere.”
“That would be terrible. I feel so guilty for not telling him before we were married.”
“Do you think that would have made a difference to him?”
“No not really…no it wouldn’t have. I love him so much I don’t want to disappoint him.”
“I don’t know what kind of relationship you and Travis have, only that I think it’s a very loving one. I know I can talk to Richie about anything and we go off on one another slam things around and end up in bed…I hope that’s not too much information,” Toni laughed.
“No Travis and I are the same however we’ve not had an argument yet.”
“You haven’t been married long enough. I’d just get him somewhere without distractions and talk to him about it. You may not have anything to worry about Jan,I’d find that doctor for the third opinion and do it soon.”
“You’re right I’ve got to put Travis in the picture, it’s not fair to him.”
“I know somebody else that’s dying to have a baby, Lucy but she wants to wait until they’re married and that sod won’t get off his butt and make her a happy woman. I think he’s married to the restaurant.
“She may have some help, her cousin Jeff is in her corner now.”
“He’s a sweetheart but I imagine he’ll take it to Andy if he doesn’t start moving. More wine?” Toni had the bottle poised.
“Oh yes please, did I tell you what Sarah told me about Miss Peeg and Mr. Jessup?”
“No-o-o, spill.”
