Back at Work
Andy watched Arthur walk out of the boarding house after telling him about all the shootings, kidnappings and wrecks. He shook his head, what kind of a place was this becoming he wondered as he tied his apron behind his back and got ready for work. He and Lucy had heard the sirens the night before but had no idea what was going on.
He’d also had word Richie Roberts was moved into the boarding house, man you take a day off and all hell breaks loose. He looked up as Nell Walker came in; he liked Nell, she was always on time and did a good job with the customers in his restaurant.
“Hiya Nell, you doin’ okay today?”
“Great, Andy. Did you hear about all the stuff that happened last night?”
“Yeah and then some you just never know about people.”
“I feel really bad for Abby, what a nut case her husband was. Oh listen Andy I’ve got a friend looking for work, she’s a top drawer waitress if you’re interested in hiring, and I know some of these local school girls don’t always show up.”
“Sure send her around, I’ll talk to her. Is she working now?”
“She was until two days ago, worked at the Marina in Coffs but got tired of working two shifts all the time. Have you got the specials up yet?” Nell moved around to the blackboard.
“Nope come on back to the kitchen and we’ll get that worked out. Anybody heard from Nina lately?” Andy hadn’t officially fired her but he told her to get her act together if she wanted a job.
“I’ll check on her Andy when I get off tonight, I think she’s got a boyfriend now because I don’t see her around the pub in Coffs.”
“I hope he’s not an alcoholic,” Andy pushed the kitchen door open.
