Boz & Hando
by Atonia
It was a few days after Jack & Bridgid had their wedding reception, which Hando had crashed along with Boz and Bet; that he found himself alone in the flat over the garage. Bet had gone into Coff’s to get her hair cut. Hando leaned over the railing; he could hear music playing, but it sounded like it was coming from outside.
Boz was sitting out back of the garage with his portable CD player smoking an illegal substance. Hando followed the smell.
"Put that shit out."
"Fuck you, it takes away the pain in my back," Boz took another puff.
Hando made a face but his mind wasn’t on what Boz smoked; it was on the new found knowledge that he had a sister and a damn good looking one too.
"Hey, Boz why didn’t you ever say anything about having a sister?"
"I didn’t know I still had one, Christ I haven’t seen her since we were kids. We have the same old man but otherwise we ain’t related. I don’t even know her now."
"Well if you got the same old man you’re halves."
"Ha, you’d never know it would ya? Nah her mum was miss high street ya know, she worked at Barrett’s and that made her better’n the rest of us."
"How come she took up with the rest of ya then?"
"I dunno, the old man musta had something working in his pants."
"She ah was with that bloke that cooks at Andy’s, ya reckon they’re um…"
"How the hell should I know…how come you’re wantin’ to know. Oh man you ain’t interested in her…she wouldn’t give you the time o’day…drink o’water if you were thirsting to death. I told her about my problems and she says, ‘oh, sorry to hear that,’ didn’t offer to help me out…could I give ya a lift somewhere, need any money. No she’s like her mum."
"Five minutes ago you said you didn’t even know her so how do you know what she thinks?"
"I guess I don’t, and guess what I don’t give a flyin’…."
"I know where she lives, asked around ya know, at the club, so ah if you need to contact her…"
"Oh yeah, lookin’ after me was ya?" Boz laughed. "Listen what’s goin’ on with you and Bet?"
"I dunno, she’s getting restless, talking about moving on, been here too long. You know how she is, she don’t want any long term contracts."
"Is that what you are a contract?"
"I reckon. Well ya know we are kinda at a crossroads could go either way. I think we’re startin’ to care too much and that ain’t in the cards…not for her anyway…me either." He added quickly.
"Well that’d be a shame, break up an act like that."
"Yeah…a shame." Hando lit a cigarette and looked out over the empty field behind the garage.
