Coffee with Kim
“I was beginning to think you had some kind of vigilante committee here in this little burg,” Kim said brushing off his suit and trying to regain a bit of dignity.”
“No not at all, my secretary thought there’d been a break-in, sorry for the trouble,” Richie said.
The deputy had been and gone and Kim was at last upright but with a pounding headache. Gingerly he touched his temple.
“You probably should get that looked at, could be a concussion,” Richie said
“No I don’t think so,” Kim answered looking around the store, “well you know who I am, might I ask who you are with the mallet?”
Richie grinned and lay the mallet on a table, “Richie Roberts, I’m a solicitor just down the street.” He extended his hand.
“Nice to meet you I’m sure,” Kim shook his hand.
“How about a cup of coffee, it’s just down the street at the Tavern.”
Kim looked at him wondering if he was going
to be stuck with this bloke all day, “sure, I could use a cup.”
Kim sipped his coffee taking in the Tavern and the few people sitting around reading the paper. “Seems like a quiet little place here, I wonder my father wanted to open a Barrett’s in The Glen, I can’t imagine there being enough customers to warrant it.”
“You’d be surprised, it’s growing all the time and the residents are ripe for new stores. Coffs is quite a drive. What’s the difference in Barrett’s I thought it was already Barrett’s.”
“Oh well you’re an American, you wouldn’t know. Believe me what’s there now is not what Barrett’s of Australia is…you’ll see.” He said rather haughtily.
Richie studied him from across the table not sure he was going to like this guy. “So what’s going to happen to the stuff that’s there now?”
“I’ll sell it to some wanker.” Kim said finishing his coffee. “Well, I have work to do,” he said rising.
Richie threw some money on the table and stood up, “so do I…when can we expect the transformation?’ he asked putting his wallet away.
Kim looked at him, “soon,” and turned and walked away.
