Come Fly With Me

Toni zipped up her bag and slipped on the fleece vest. She was dressed in black yoga pants and a long sleeved tee shirt and moccasins for the long trip to LA, once there she had an overnighter and then a flight to DC and a puddle jumper into Virginia. She wondered if it was worth it as she hitched her leather bag on her shoulder and pulled her case out to the steps. Darn Richie anyway, surely he could have taken an hour this morning to get her to the airport in Coffs Harbor.

She hadn’t seen her mother since her wedding in December and although she could have paid the fare for her mother to come to Australia, her mother didn’t do well on long flights. She parked her car in the car park at the airport and pulled her bag inside. She was standing inside ready to check her luggage when she heard her name called and turned around…it was Travis McGee.

Travis walked over to her, “Hey Toni, where ya going?”

“Hi Travis, um going to visit my mother.” Why did he always look so good.

“Where are you flying in to?”

“Los Angeles.”

“So are we.”

“Who’s we?”

“Tee and Kyle, we finally got a court date for the custody hearing. So you’re flying into LA when do you connect out?”

“The next morning, whenever that is I still can’t get a handle on the time difference.”

Travis smiled and impulsively asked her, “Do you want to fly with me?”

“Pardon?”

“We’ve got a private jet, be a lot more comfortable.”

“Oh…I’ve already got my ticket.”

“Cancel it Toni.” They locked eyes for a moment and Travis reached down and took her bag.
