Going to the Beach

Toni was happy to have Travis all to herself for the weekend there always seemed to be other people around and they were never truly alone together. Friday started out as usual, Travis meeting with Jimmy, his Dad coming around, getting Tee off to school, Sarah at breakfast but then around eleven o’clock Travis found her packing up a few clothes for the weekend they were to spend together at the beach house.

“All right Toni I’m all yours,” he slipped his arms up her back.

“Mmm I’m going to take advantage of that you know,” she smiled up at him.

“I hope to hell you do,” he tasted her lips, “are we packed?”

“Yes, ready to go.”

Toni wanted to stop off in The Glen at Lucy’s for bread and goodies for the weekend. It was the first time they had been out in public together. They came into the bakery holding hands and giggling like two teenagers.

“Oh shit look at all this stuff,” Travis examined the glass fronted display. “I want one of each.”

“Have you not been in here before?” Toni asked.

“No I haven’t, I’m serious about one of each.” He looked up as Lucy came from the back to help.

“Toni, I haven’t seen you in a while,” she came out and gave Toni a hug.

“Hey Lucy, how are you, have you met Travis McGee.”

Travis straightened up, “Hi luv, you bake all this?”

“I did, with a little help, what can I get you?” Lucy smiled appreciating a good looking man.

“He wants one of each Lucy and we need some bread for the weekend. So what have you been up to Lucy?” Toni asked.

“I’ve got some news Toni,” Lucy smiled ear to ear, “Andy and I are pregnant.”

“Oh Lucy how wonderful,” Toni squealed and gave her another hug.

“Congratulations,” Travis smiled taking the bags Lucy handed him., “Guess that answers your question Toni,” he grinned.

Travis paid for the sweets and they drove down the street to Barrett’s, Toni wanted a new bikini for the weekend.

Kim Barrett standing in his glassed in office overlooking the floor caught sight of Toni and Travis as they entered. One of the richest men in The Glen shopping at Barrett’s deserved special treatment, he straightened his tie and left for the floor.

“Good morning,” he smarmed, “I’m Kim Barrett and welcome to my store is there anything in particular you’re looking for today?”

Travis shook the proffered hand, “Little lady wants a bikini.” He glanced around the store.

“This way,” he gave Toni the once over and led them to the ladies department and found the assistant who was helping another customer and brought her over and introduced her to Mr. McGee and Mrs. Roberts. “I’m sure Miss Martin will be able to assist you and if there is anything you desire, coffee – tea?”

“Ah no thanks, “ Toni grinned, “Bikini.” She glanced at Travis who was suppressing a smile.

She found three she liked and Travis bought all three of them for her. “Happy now?” he asked as they walked hand in hand out of the store. He loved buying things for her.

“I’m always happy with you, oh wasn’t he fawning over you Travis have you been in there before?”

“No, I’ve not shopped in The Glen but I think Barrett wants some of my money I’ll leave that to you to spread around. You need anything else honey?”

“I don’t think so love,” they got in his SUV and drove down the street, “Oh look Nonnie’s Gifts and Antiques opening soon, I will love poking around in there,” she craned her neck as they passed.

“This little burgh is growing and I like the idea of supporting local businesses, make sure you do that Toni, what’s mine is yours I’m serious about that I gave you that credit card to use and I expect to see it used.” He’d had a time convincing Toni to spend his money.

“You might rue the day you said that,” she smiled and reached over taking his hand.

“Never,” he kissed her hand and pulled out onto the highway. “Have you ever been to Sawtell?”

“No, I never have.”

“It’s a neat little beach town, lots of shops for when you get tired of the sun, good places to eat I’m told.”

“You haven’t spent any time there either have you?”

“Not really but that’s gonna change now. You and I will get to know it up close and personal.”

“I like the sound of that,” Toni teased him. “up close and personal.”

“You hold that thought,” he winked at her and grinned. Travis was feeling light hearted and ready for some fun with Toni. He was aware they had little time alone, just the two of them and he was looking forward to the weekend with her.
