In the Tavern

Jimmy Kelp didn’t feel like he was being a spy but Travis had told him a week ago to keep an eye on Jean while he was gone. Since Jean and Nell were buddies now it was a little easier for him. Jean and Richie Roberts had gone to the movies with him and Nell a few days ago and all he knew was Richie had walked Jean home. Nell told him Jean said he tried it but didn’t get past her door. He didn’t know whether he believed that or not.

He was in the Glen Tavern waiting on Nell to get off work, he didn’t often come in here, mostly he went to the Crossing unless Nell was involved, he wouldn’t take her to a place like that. He checked his watch she wasn’t supposed to work past six but she still hadn’t shown, he was trying to nurse his beer.

“Hey Jimmy, “Jean slid onto a bar stool beside him

“Jean, how ya doin’?”

“Oh, I’m fine, I was wondering if you’d heard from Travis since he left, I thought he would be calling but I haven’t heard from him.”

“Nope, he ain’t called me.”

“I hope he’s okay.”

“I’m sure if he wasn’t Kyle would have let us know.”

Jean ordered a glass of wine, “I think I made a mistake with him.”

“Oh yeah, how so?”

“Well, things were just happening too fast and I kind of pulled back, he only called me once after that and then he left for America.”

“I guess he’s been busy Jean, you know getting’ ready for the trip and all. Oh here comes your buddy.”

Jean turned to see Richie walk into the Tavern and take a seat down from her, “Hi Richie.”

“Hi Jean,” Richie looked around her to Jimmy, “Jimmy, where’s McGee?”

“He’s in Los Angeles.”

“He left the same day that Toni left.” Jean added.

Richie met her eyes for a moment and ordered himself a drink.
