Jessup’s Corner

Miss Peeg had been watching the vans come and go all morning across the street from her office. It looked like Mr. Jessup was actually getting ready to open his shop. By lunchtime, curiosity had got the best of her and she had a walk over to see what was happening.

“Yoo hoo, Mr. Jessup?” she called out, entering the shop.

“Oh Miss Peeg how delightful to see you,” he stood up from behind the counter where he was arranging a display of candy bars.

“I had to come and see how you’re coming along with the shop. I see you have stock now.” She poked around the shelves.

“I do indeed, Miss Peeg. Is there anything I could get for you?”

“No thank you, Mr. Jessup, I was just having a look see.”

“I’ve been meaning to talk to you,” he said, coming out from behind the counter.

Miss Peeg’s head came up from the assorted crisps and nuts, “Oh dear.”

“I wonder if we might have dinner sometime soon?” he asked, in his soft voice.

“Ah well, my sister is still here ,at least until weekend, perhaps after she leaves.” Sarah McGee’s warning was much on her mind about the jewelry.

“Well maybe I will see you one day next week,” he said leaning against the counter all smiles.

“Yes, yes that would be fine, Mr. Jessup…I’ll just pop over for lunch now.” She smiled and quickly left the shop.

“Fine woman, yes fine,” Mr. Jessup said to himself as she walked back across the street.
