Making Friends
It was lunchtime at Andy’s and Nell Walker took a menu over to Jean’s table, “Hi Jean.”
“Hello Nell, what’s the special today?”
“There are two, Chicken Ziti and Stuffed Snapper.”
“What’s it stuffed with?”
“Um Spinach and mushrooms, red onion and parsley.”
“Oh, well I’ll have that, March must be cooking today?”
“Actually Andy is.” She smiled.
Jean raised her brows and handed the menu back to Nell. “I always think of Andy as comfort food.”
“He’s full of surprises. Still want to go to a movie tonight?”
“I thought you were going with Jimmy?”
“He called and cancelled out, they’ve got some sick cattle.”
“Where does he work?”
“Glenridge Station.”
“Oh, where the BBQ was.”
“Yes, that’s right you were there. Did you meet the owner?”
“I don’t think so…somebody McGee?”
“Travis McGee, he’s getting a divorce did you know?.”
“Oh, too bad, yeah I’d like to go to the movies. I sure don’t have anything else to do.”
“Good, I’d better get your order back there. I’ll talk to you tonight,” she smiled and scooted back with Jean’s order.
Good, that was Wednesday night taken care of. Jean sipped her water and thought about the BBQ, she hadn’t known anybody then except for Kim Barrett and if she’d known him a little better she probably wouldn’t be here working in The Glen. But she had met March Nova for drinks a couple of times and she and Nell had become friends. Although she lived in Coffs, she liked this little village and the people were friendly enough.
She decided old Mr. Barrett had done her a favor transferring her here even if she had to put up with his son.
