Menu Item

Jean Robinson finished up her work and gathered her things, she made sure she waited the extra minute that gave her an hour overtime. Dirty rat Kim, he always waited until the last minute to bring her something that just had to be done today before she left. She cut the light in her little office and punched the time clock. Let him pay for it. She thought walking through the darkened store she unlocked the door and locked it behind her.

She checked her watch, it was after seven and she had the ride home to Coffs. Walking down the sidewalk to where her car had been brought around by Kim, how thoughtful of him, she gritted her teeth. He’d been oh so nice, oh so smooth the day he hired her but she knew him a little better now.

She still hadn’t had any dinner, maybe a quick stop at Andy’s, she might could get something to go. She parked in front and went inside and asked for a menu that she began scanning over walking around in circles out of the way of diners leaving the restaurant.

“Oh, excuse me, sorry I wasn’t looking where I was going,” Richie Roberts stooped and picked up the menu and handed it back to her.

“Neither was I” She smiled accepting the menu. They both stepped in the same direction.

“Coming or going?” Richie laughed.

“I’m not sure,” She smiled back.

“Restaurant is that way, I’m headed for the bar.”

“I was just going to get something to go.” She kept looking at him.

“Buy you a drink?” Richie asked.

She pursed her lips slightly, “Can I order food from the bar?”

“Sure you can.”

“Oh, excuse me,” She stepped out of the way for the elderly gentleman. “I seem to be in everybody’s way.”

“We should get you out of the main thoroughfare then,” He smiled and moved with her into the bar.

Mr. Jessup stopped at the door and turned watching Richie and the woman walk into the bar.
