Miss Peeg’s Cottage

Miss Peeg, her sister Bess and Amanda rode out to look at the cottage Miss Peeg had her eye on. The real estate lady was to meet them and show the house. It had belonged to an elderly couple who finally threw the trowel in and moved to an apartment in Coffs.

“Oh Winnie look at the gardens, you’ll never keep this up.” Bess declared.

“Now why would you say that, I can garden with the best of them, certainly more so than you.”

“The garden is really beautiful Auntie, maybe Johnny and I can give you a hand.”

“Perhaps…if I need it.”

“Hello, you must be Miss Peeg,” the lady came out of the house, “aren’t the gardens just beautiful and lush.”

“Oh my yes, it’s almost overwhelming,” Winnie said.

“I’m afraid the inside doesn’t quite match the outside but it has possibilities.” The lady said.

Winnie, Bess and Amanda went inside.

“Oh dear this will never do, oh look at this carpet and the walls, too dreary,” Bess immediately started.

Winnie walked through the little cottage with it’s quirky rooms and nooks and crannies. The kitchen did leave much to be desired but she could see past the outdated appliances and dreary colors, the carpet could come up. A splash of paint, a little cleaning and new furnishings it would be perfect.

The back garden matched the front with the addition of a guest house, Winnie had a look inside it was a one room storage facility at present. A little garden shed behind that and a long English garden bench.

“What do you think Auntie Win,” Amanda asked coming up beside her in the back garden.

“I think it’s sold what do you think?”

“I love it, it will be so perfect for you.”

Bess picked her way through the garden path, “are we ready to leave?”

Winnie smiled, “God willing, in about thirty or forty years.”
