Nonnie Makes a Decision
Pippin had waited long enough for his mum to wake up and he began washing her face.
“Oh, Pip,” Nonnie rolled over; it had been after 2:00 Am when she finally made it home and into her shower and bed. Pippin was insistent so she got up and pulled on her pajama pants and a tee shirt and took him out to the back garden to take care of his needs. She was sitting on the back steps when Uncle Stephen opened the back door and handed her a cup of coffee.
“When you have a minute my dear.” He closed the door.
Nonnie pushed her hair back and the previous night came flooding back into her mind. Richie. It had been an exotic, erotic romp in the ocean, somehow sexier because he never entered her, she hadn’t allowed it. But they had explored each other’s bodies. She closed her eyes remembering the feel of him and well knowing what he could do for her.
She opened her eyes and sipped her coffee; Pippin had exhausted the row of shrubbery and came back to be let in.
Uncle Stephen was cooking breakfast, “I do hope you worked up an appetite last night, I have emptied the fridge.”
“Why are you cooking such a pile of food this morning?” she found a seat at the table.
“Breakfast for William, he’s coming home this morning. You went out with our solicitor?”
“Yes, dinner and a dip in the ocean.”
“Sounds like fun, was it?”
“Yes.”
“Hmm, well what do you think of him, is this going to be something, Nonnie should I start looking at china patterns for you?”
“Little early for that don’t you think, one night out.”
“You can always tell on the first date I always thought.”
“Oh I know you want me out of here now, trying to marry me off or something?”
“Marry oh my no, it’s not required anymore and you know I am not trying to run you away from here. I would however like to see you with someone, you’re alone too much and you are much too attractive my dear to spend your life alone.”
“Well I don’t know yet, I am attracted to him but he’s not someone to hang your heart on, he’s a heartbreaker Uncle Stephen.”
“Nonnie…get out there and live, he can only break your heart if you let him. Why do you think that anyway?”
“He’s one of those men who cannot be faithful, two broken marriages behind him and half The Glen passing though his bedroom; doesn’t sound very attractive.”
“That’s a matter of opinion,” he smiled breaking eggs into a bowl. “Who is faithful anymore, Nonnie? Not many people I’ll bet, lack of opportunity or someone special comes through your life. Don’t let that deter you my dear, he’s a catch.”
“But could I hold him?”
“That would depend on whether he wants to be caught in the first place. I do believe you are intelligent enough to figure that out. William should be here any moment, plates my dear if you would.”
Nonnie pulled out the heavy ironstone plates he liked to use for breakfast and passed them over to him. “Maybe I will ask William what he thinks. I like him a lot Uncle Stephen and last night was a lot of fun. Maybe I’ll give it a chance,” she looked up and smiled slightly.
