On Love Alone

Richie mopped the water off the tiled kitchen floor while Toni rescued the overcooked pot roast.

“I should have taken it out of the oven, it probably won’t be fit to eat.”

“Like I care tonight. I liked the appetizer better anyway.” He grinned up at her from the floor.

“You can’t live on love alone sweetheart, you need dried up pot roast.”

Richie and Toni shared a lot of tender moments that evening and through the night, each realizing what they’d almost lost. Toni took her father’s advice; she loved Richie enough to forgive him and put that behind them. She’d also cut Travis out of her life and that had not been an easy thing for her to do. She’d spent the last night in the guest house pondering her feelings for him they just simply did not go deep enough, not like what she felt for Richie. Richie was the love of her life and although they argued and fought as was their nature together, they were bonded with a love that would weather anything.

Not having children was the hardest thing she had to get past and Travis had made it plain he would give her children which made her decision harder still. She thought she would have to fill her life with something else, Richie. He had to be enough and she reckoned he was.

“You know I was thinking Toni, when we get back from wherever it is we’re going to go, we might get a dog or a cat or something, you know it would be a good place here for a pet.”

Toni folded the sheet in her hands, she knew what he was trying to do, “That might be a good idea, one of each.” They were propped up in bed on Tuesday morning both having taken a day off from work.

“Maybe a dog, cat’s have claws.”

“And dogs have paws,” she laughed. “I really wouldn’t mind a puppy, we should get a Coffs’ paper and have a look.”

“Well you don’t want to look now, you’d see some little mutt and he’d be in the car riding to the house.”

“Where are we going to go, where do you want to go?”

“I dunno, how about Singapore?”

“Oh wow, that would be interesting.”

“Yeah, you know we had luggage visit there remember when we first came over?”

“Um hmm, my dainties went to Singapore, okay let’s go look it up on the net.” Toni was ready to get up.

“Now?”

“Well…we aren’t doing anything else.”

“Yeah, what’s wrong with this picture here I am in bed with a beautiful naked woman and she wants to get up and go online?”

“Not…necessarily .” she cocked a brow.
