Over the Edge
The flame had come up fast between them and it carried them far out over the Atlantic. Travis had retreated to his bunk sometime before the sun came streaming into the window partially shaded over his head. They both had to get some sleep. Toni drifted off easily but Travis had a little trouble going to sleep. He knew what he wanted but he wasn’t sure about Toni, he worried about her.
He was still asleep when Toni woke found her clothes and slipped out of the cabin into the tiny bathroom. She knelt by his bunk when she came back and watched him sleeping. She wanted to touch his eyes, his lips, his face. She touched her own lips chapped from so many kisses all those months of tamped down passion had come out on her narrow bunk. She brushed her hair back and moved to her bunk. What would happen to them? No worries…he would take care of it. She had to put herself totally in his hands. His hands moved slightly over his blanket she wanted to go and lie down on top of him, what was wrong with her, she’d totally slipped over the edge. The smell of freshly brewed coffee brought her to her senses and she got up and slid the door open to find a cup.
The smell of coffee brought Travis around and he opened his eyes and quickly glanced at her bunk, she was out of it somewhere. He let his mind play with what had happened in the night and felt himself becoming aroused. He sat up…best go take a piss and get rid of it. He loved Toni and had for a long time he felt some of that was returned to him last night, he hoped like hell that’s what it was. He wanted to make things good for her. She deserved it.
Toni balanced two cups of coffee back to the cabin, Travis was up and out and she found a cup holder for both cups, tidied his bunk and hers. He came back in and kissed her good morning noting the wide smile on her face, it was going to be all right. “Umm coffee,” he said and picked up his cup. “I’m glad to see you smiling I was a little afraid you’d be eat up with regrets and recriminations this morning.”
“No…none. No regrets Travis. I think I took that step last night…you finally pulled that rope tight enough, pulled me to you.”
“Is that what I did, well then I’m going to wrap it tight around both of us I’m not letting you get away this time, this time you’re mine.” He wrapped an arm around her neck and kissed her forehead. “I’m going up and have breakfast with Tee you wanna come too?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Don’t be hiding out now.”
“I’m not…Travis I love you.”
Travis dropped his cup, “Oh Christ Toni, you don’t know how long I’ve wanted to hear you say that,” he had her in his arms holding her tight. “I’ll move heaven and earth for you Toni you know I will because I love you, you.” He kissed her and touched the tip of her nose. He released her and looked up, “thank the gods of airplanes.” Smiled and went to have breakfast with his nephew.
Toni wrapped her arms around herself and twirled around and sat on his bunk.
