Playing With Fire

"I may have put my foot in it." Toni said flopping down on the sofa beside Richie.

"What do you mean?" he said putting aside the book he was reading

"I had lunch today with Lucy at Millie’s and well I felt so sorry for her and Andy, they’re getting married you know and well…"

"All right what have you done Toni?" Richie looked over at her.

"I’ve offered to pick up the tab for their wedding…oh it’s not going to be some grand affair just a simple church service and a small reception…and the dress and his suit of course."

"To-ni you can’t…"

"Using my money not OURS…they’re so sweet Richie and Andy jumped right on it. Lucy was worried because of the bakery going up right now and they couldn’t afford a real wedding…I couldn’t stand it."

"Maybe all they wanted was a legal ceremony…you really shouldn’t make decisions for other people Toni."

"They didn’t have to accept the offer."

"I know you Toni once you get rolling you’re like a freight train…you’re like Gena in that regard."

"Well thank you very much…not!" she got up and went into the kitchen fuming slinging things around.

Richie waited what he figured was the required amount of time and got up and went after her.

"Toni, what you did was very generous; if they have accepted your offer then that’s the end of it. I agree they are a great couple."

Toni stopped and turned around, "well then why…"

Richie grinned, "I just like to get you fired up every once in awhile."

"YOU!" Toni threw a kitchen sponge at him which he caught.

"I like to live dangerously," he said coming closer.
