Richie Buys Breakfast

“You can’t stay here and I gotta go to work, is there somebody I can call to come and get you?”

Rosemary snuggled down in Richie’s bed, “There isn’t anybody in the world who would come and get me Richie, that’s okay I’ll get a ride.”

“No I’ll take you back to Coffs, you said you had a friend there that works at Andy’s?”

“I’m not sure she’s a friend anymore, she probably doesn’t want to see me. We used to be roommates…a long time ago.”

“So what’s the problem, you said last night you were looking for her?”

“It’s complicated. Besides, it’s not her I really wanted to see…she has something of mine…I just thought, oh never mind. Okay I’ll get up and you can take me to Coffs, I left my car there outside of Crossings.”

Richie ran his hand over her hip, “so where will you go?”

“I don’t know, hey I’m free I can go anywhere I can do anything I want, maybe I’ll stay in Coffs for awhile, find a room somewhere, I might even find a job.”

“What kind of work do you do?”

He seemed like a nice guy, too nice for the likes of her what could she tell him that she sold herself for money, rolled drunks, “this and that, whatever I need to do.”

“So you’re unemployed, no place to live…I hate to just drop you off, you know? Last night was great.”

“Yeah it was, you’re great,” she chuckled. “I don’t want you to feel responsible for me just because you shagged me, I’m a big girl…I’ve been a big girl for a long time.” She sat up in bed and looked around for her clothes, “just get me to Coffs, maybe I’ll see you around.”

Richie took her to Crossings and walked her over to her car, “you need anything?”

“Oh no I uh…I’ve got a little gas money…I don’t want anything from you.”

Richie looked away and back realizing what she probably was, “Well ah, I don’t have time to buy you breakfast but um, I can pay for it.”

“No, you don’t have to besides you rescued me last night, I think we’re even.”

Richie reached in his pocket and pulled out fifty dollars and stuffed it in her bra, “Now we are, let me know if you need rescuing again.” He kissed her and walked back to his car.

“Hey…I will thanks.” She smiled and got in her car.

After Richie left she hung around the parking lot for awhile deciding what to do and drove down the road and found a cheap room to rent for the night.

Richie drove back to The Glen, something about that girl bothered him, he didn’t think she was a professional, he’d seen too many of them in his life, she just seemed sort of lost to him. He’d given her his phone number to call if she ever needed help, he half hoped she would call him.
