Richie Recruits Miss Peeg
Richie grabbed a minute and opened the file he’d been reading off and on for a few days, the one Stephen Scott had given him on the miniature forgeries. There were a few contacts he needed to touch base with. It was an interesting case and one he wanted to work on but he was swamped at the moment. Miss Peeg was busy doing nothing in particular he noticed and smiled, she was good at that.
“Miss Peeg, could you step in here for a moment?”
“Yes Mr. Roberts,” she answered brightly.
He went over the case with her briefly, “I have a contact here and I was wondering if you’d be interested in checking him out?”
Miss Peeg smiled even broader, “I would so love to be part of an investigation Mr. Roberts and I am somewhat familiar with miniatures, I own one myself, nothing as precious as Mr. Scott’s collection I am sure, I might use it as a ruse you know to get me in the door.”
“I am reminding you these are not your corner antique dealers here Miss Peeg. You’re only to ask questions.”
“I understand perfectly and is there any particular name you’d like for me to use when I make my inquiries?”
Richie raised his brows, maybe he’d made a mistake in asking her to help, “Whatever you’ll be comfortable with Miss Peeg.”
“Oh, then I shall be Cassandra Wigginstaff,” she smiled brightly, “I always wanted to be you see.”
Richie didn’t see but he smiled, “If you can remember that then use it.”
Miss Peeg left his office full of excitement.
