Riding the Fences at Glenridge
“Well I’m just sayin’ it’s an opportunity for you if you’d want it,” Jimmy climbed back up on his horse. He and Johnny were ridding fences trying to find out where a heifer got out and ended up in the road.
“I don’t know if I could stand being inside all day hacking away at dead cows,” Johnny turned his horse and came up beside Jimmy. “I like being outside and working with live animals.”
“I don’t blame ya I know I couldn’t do it. I reckon Travis will have to find himself a butcher, of course you could mind the counter.”
“Nah, I don’t think so.”
They were discussing the new butcher shop Travis and his Dad were talking about opening in The Glen. “You’d be closer to home and that pretty little lady you got.”
“You trying to get rid of me Kelp?”
Jimmy chuckled, “I reckon I could do a better job of it than this if I was.”
“How’s Nell?”
“Nell is…good Johnny, nice lady."
“Amanda likes her, sees her at Andy’s all the time.”
“She don’t like shift work much. What Andy needs to do is hire another waitress that’ll show up for work. You know she works four till nine most nights and when she ain’t she’s working 7-4 and some days two shifts. Makes good money in tips though.”
“I think Amanda’s about to get ready to make a little money too, we got the two front rooms ready in that old house. As soon as Jeff gets the plumbing done in the kitchen and downstairs bathroom she’ll be ready to open a day care.”
“I believe I’d rather herd cows.”
Johnny laughed, “Me too, live ones.”
