Taking a Step Away

Richie drove home from Millie’s Tavern still pissed and slammed into the house. He paced back and forth in his den. So she was leaving him and he just knew it was for McGee, just knew it; the son of a bitch. All the happy face shit she’d been acting since she came back home was just that. Richie wondered just how long she’d been seeing Travis.

He sat down on his sofa with his head in his hands the hot anger fading somewhat now and the silence of the house was getting loud, too loud. He had to get out of here everywhere he looked he saw Toni. He went upstairs and threw some clothes in a bag, grabbed a few other things he wanted right now and stuffed it in the back of his car, he’d go to Millie’s and get a room there until he decided on what he wanted to do.

He started his car, remembered his cell phone charger and started to go get it and then remembered where his phone was and said fuck it. He’d get himself a new phone, a new number and he wouldn’t have to worry about her calling him again and if she thought he was paying another phone bill for Travis McGee she could…she could…oh fuck, he leaned his head on the steering wheel…oh Toni why? A moment later he sat up straight and blinked his eyes a few times and started his Rover, carefully backed out of the drive and headed toward The Glen and Millie’s.
