Tee Not at the Beach
Tee was still sulking he’d wanted to go to the beach too and Uncle Travis said he could go the next time. He didn’t see what the problem was, he wouldn’t be in the way at all. He and his dog Bear walked down to his grandparent’s new house, head hung low feeling left behind, forgotten.
Bill McGee came out with a box to throw on the pile, “Tee, come here boy your gramma has your room ready and needs your help.
“What can I do?”
“Well for one thing she wants to know where to situate your bed and I don’t know what all else.”
“I’d rather be at the beach.”
“You’ll get there, give Travis a little time with Toni.”
“He’s always with her I mean I don’t mind that I like her and I’m glad she’s here.”
“It’s a thing called love Tee, sorta blots out everything else for awhile.”
“Then what happens after everything gets blotted out?”
“Oh well, then I reckon you start remembering all the things you blotted out and go looking for ‘em.”
“Like me.”
“That ain’t what I heard, your gramma says you’re getting your school work checked out every night now, somebody to look behind your ears see if you’re washing all your parts.”
Tee grinned, “Nothing gets by Toni.”
“See there, she knows you’re around.”
“Grandpa, is it okay if I just think about Uncle Travis and Toni like they were my mom and dad, just think you know.”
“Tee, I reckon you can think anything you want to, especially if it makes you happy. That makes you happy don’t it?”
“Yes sir, it does.”
“Well you go on thinkin’ it son, hey you better ask before you go taking that dog in the house.”
“Gramma said Bear was welcome anytime.”
“Well what do I know anyway, come on Bear I reckon she’s got a room tricked out for you too.”
