The Glen Infants School
Kim left out of his store and drove up to Amanda Cochren’s Glen Infants School. Rushing inside the door of the pre-school-kindy-daycare he stood in a brightly colored entrance and soon Amanda came out through a locked glass door.
“Kim, surprised to see you here.” She smiled locking the door behind her.
“What’s with the locked doors?”
“It’s a safety precaution Kim. So what’s up?”
“Oh, um, look... you remember Cara? I think you met her at the Glenridge BBQ... well um she’s asked me to um baby-sit whilst she goes in hospital and I immediately thought of you,” he smiled charmingly.
“Oh you did, how old is your daughter now?”
“Oh well, let’s see um about 8 months I think or nine, I think she’s nine.” He was making a mess of it.
“Nine months, okay, how many hours a day were you thinking?”
“Nine to five…or later, how late do you stay open?”
“I have a time set for 6:30, that’s the latest I will keep them unless of course it’s an emergency.”
“Of course well uh, 5:30 then.”
“I hope it’s nothing serious for Cara?” She looked up from the paperwork she was putting together.
“Minor surgery she said, be out in a couple of days. All this for me?” he took the papers.
“Just bring them back with you when you bring her in. Would you like a tour, see where she’ll be spending her time?”
“Oh that’s not necessary,” apparently it was Amanda was leading him through the locked door. There were two children in one room a boy and a girl, he recognized Brookie from Millie’s and a smaller room with cribs for the babies.
“She will nap in here and since I really don’t have that many children yet, I’ll keep her with Brookie and Nic. Is she walking yet?”
“Walking…no she um scoots around.”
“Well that’s about it, I serve lunch and breakfast and two snacks a day so you will need to bring her food since she’s still using baby food.”
“Sure, anything she’ll need just let me know.” He followed her out to the front again. “You’re a life saver Amanda.”
Amanda smiled, “I look forward to having Kimberly join us.”
Kim got back in his car and breathed a big sigh of relief.
