Travis Plans a Barbeque
“But do you think the property is ready?” Bill McGee asked his son as they walked to the main house from the new foundation that had been laid that morning for Bill and Sarah’s new house.
“I think so, it’s pretty well cleaned up around the house, the gardeners have been in and replaced all the washed out plants. I think it looks damned good myself,” Travis said.
“Well it’s on your head anyway,” Bill said kicking a rock out of the road
“What…since when don’t you like barbies?”
“Eh its all the people around here, I don’t know ‘em.”
“A good time to meet the neighbors then, you can’t sit here by yourself all the time at least Mum is out and about and made friends.”
“I ain’t much of a people person I reckon.”
“You best get over that then,” Travis said. “I figure with the election coming up the candidates would like to get out and glad-hand a little.”
“Since when do you like politicians?”
Travis grinned, “Never but these are my neighbors Dad. We got to live here, best to keep them happy with us.”
“What time are you leaving in the morning for Sydney?”
“Jan and I are going about seven, an early flight we should be back in a couple of days. Make sure Tee gets to practice now, that boy is footy mad.”
“He is that,” Bill chuckled, “I never thought to see such a change in a boy, your Mum says he’s blossomed.”
Travis smiled, “yeah all he needed was a little watering.”
“And Kyle to coach, look at them down there,” they stopped and watched Kyle and Tee playing footy in a field. “Stroke of luck finding that feller,” Bill said.
“Jan found him, yeah stroke of luck.” Travis smiled thinking of the fuss he put up when she hired Kyle to look after him.
“So when are you planning this all out cook?”
“Couple of weeks Jan’s going to find out a date when everybody is available and we’ll go from there.” Travis took off his hat and ran his hand through his hair, “no sense planning a party if nobody is home,” he grinned.
