Weddings and Funerals
“Seems like the only time I get to church is for weddings and funerals.” Toni slipped her dress over her head.
“Go any time you want to Toni.”
“I know Richie…I could. I have no excuses.”
Richie tied his tie, “I heard the boys took Andy out last night and got him shit-faced.”
“That should make for an interesting wedding.”
“Most grooms are hungover.”
“Were you?”
“Yes.”
“I didn’t know that.”
“I hid it well, are you about ready?”
Toni applied a little lipstick, “It hasn’t been all that long ago that we were married. Almost eight months.”
“I’m aware of that.”
Their wedding came rushing back to her as she blotted her lips, so much had happened, they’d almost blown it. She dropped her head still for a moment.
Richie was watching her waiting to leave, “What’s wrong?”
She took a breath and turned smiling, “Nothing, I’m ready.”
They looked at each other across the bed… “I never stopped loving you.” Richie said softly.
“Me either.”
“So why can’t we get rid of this garbage laying between us?”
“I don’t know.”
“It’s been laying around long enough Toni, it’s beginning to stink.”
“Oh Richie let’s go away somewhere, just the two of us.”
“Why, what are you wanting to run away from? Or should I say who?”
“We’re going to be late for church.”
