What We Both Wanted
Toni and Travis were in Sydney, Travis had spent two days attending meetings, he was on the board of several companies, and visiting his stockbroker but today was beautification day. Toni was getting the works at a day spa and Travis had a haircut and manicure. He wandered back to find her as her hair was being trimmed.
“Don’t take too much off,” he said to the stylist as he sat down in the chair next to them.
“Hi sweetie, are you all finished?”
“Yeah, just waiting on you and you do look worth waiting for.”
Toni smiled, this had been a treat today she’d been scrubbed and buffed and trimmed and massaged and she felt good about herself. “What did you have done?”
“Ah haircut and nails…a facial but don’t tell anybody,” he grinned.
Toni grinned back, Travis wasn’t vain at all but he did take care of himself she could thank Jan for that. “So what’s next?”
“There’s a little shop I want to take you to.” He waited patiently until she was finished and picked up Kyle on the way out, Kyle was seriously talking to one of the stylist and cut Travis a look when he motioned he was ready to go.
“What you got goin’ on there Kyle?” Travis asked as they left the salon.
“Somethin’ good for tonight,” he smiled broadly.
Travis took Toni to a jeweler he knew to get her ring sized; he’d already picked it out but wanted her approval. “Now that’s your birthstone and mine with the diamond in the middle is this…okay?”
“Oh Travis, it’s beautiful, just…” she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him. She was wiping tears when they parted. It was evident he’d put a lot of thought into the ring.
They’d been to dinner and were in the elevator going up to his penthouse Toni hadn’t said anything but she was feeling a little strange and had been on the ride back from the restaurant. She turned to Travis and fell into him.
“Toni!” Travis caught her and picked her up. Kyle got the door open to the apartment and was calling Travis’s physician. Travis carried her to the bedroom and lay her down while Kyle checked her vitals.
“I think she’s just fainted Travis.”
“Ah Jesus,” Travis was in a state. “Think it coulda been something she ate, she had fish.”
“I don’t know, she’s coming around now, hey Toni, what’s up girl?”
“Oh, what happened?”
“You fainted honey, how are you feeling now?”
“Woozy, oh…I’m sorry.”
“You scared me to death Toni. The doc’s on the way.”
Kyle had a look at Travis who he thought was probably worse off than Toni but he didn’t say anything. Toni seemed okay and he got up and went to wait for the doc to get there.
Travis paced while the doctor examined Toni and Kyle perched on the arm of a chair.
“Well, Mr. McGee,” Dr. Warner set his bag on an end table
“What?” Travis asked. “Is she okay?”
“Of course tests will have to be performed to confirm it but yes, she’s fine,” he smiled. “Looks like you’re going to be a father Travis.”
Travis staggered against the chair where Kyle sat; Kyle righted him with a big smile on his face.
Travis was down the hall and opened the bedroom door; Toni was sitting on the bed with a box of tissues crying.
“Toni?”
“Oh Travis, I didn’t know, I’m sorry I…”
He went over to her and sat on the bed with her, “There’s no sorry here honey, this is what we both wanted and now it’s happened.” He took her in his arms and kissed her.
