Murderer – 2

Joe Sweeny didn’t have to wait long for the Sheriff to spot the cell phone. From his hiding place below the herders hut he saw the lawman and his deputy walk out along the stream and pick it up. He cursed himself again for not going the day before and retrieving it.

He ran back to the hut and grabbed the bag, the balloon was up he figured…going back near Travis’ house was out of the question. He had no idea of the lay of the land but over the ridge must be something…at least there might be a way out to the main road…he could probably catch a ride there.

Stumbling crawling and heaving himself and the bag he made it over the ridge and down the other side. He righted himself and looked around seeing fields, what looked to be vineyards, so it was cultivated land should be a house around somewhere. He would have to keep an eye out…he didn’t want to be seen.

He stayed close the tree line and began to look for a place should he need to hide for a day. Stopping long enough for a drink he pulled the bottle of liquor out of the bag and leaned against a tree. He wiped his face and grinned…for a man that didn’t drink much Travis knew how to stock a bar.
