He wears My Ring

 "

“Mum, are you in?”

“In the utility room. Luv. What’s up?”

Meri walked out into the kitchen where Stevo was almost dancing on the spot.

“I take it you found what you were looking for in Coffs.”

“Too right, Mum. You wanna see it?”

“Is the sky blue? Of course I do.”

Stevo reached into his back pocket and pulled out a small square velvet box, opened it and turned it to show Meri, smiling shyly as she looked at it.

“Steven, it’s beautiful.”

“I got a matching pair, Mum.”

“But I thought you said you wouldn’t wear a ring, and Jeff agreed  because he was worried about damaging it at work.”

"He said that, but you know how traditional and old fashioned he can be. I did some homework, Mum. These are made of tungsten carbide, guaranteed scratchproof. I thought Jeff would like the inlay.”

“Oh, darling. I’m sure if you took a length of brass pipe and cut a ring off the end Jeff would love it, because it would come from you with love. When are you going to ask him?”

“As soon as I get home, Mum. I’ll call you when I get his answer.”

Meri kissed her son and watched as he bounded out to his truck.  Smiling and blowing her a kiss, he roared off towards his place.

Jeff was just finished a nice roast when he heard Stevo pull up. “Perfect timing,” he grinned to himself. He was sure that his partner had a built in radar that beeped when food was about to get served.

Stevo rushed in through the kitchen door and flung his arms round Jeff’s shoulders, kissing the back of his neck.

“G’Day, mate. You hungry?”

Stevo answered the question with a growl, making Jeff giggle as he turned to face his friend.

“I meant for food, mate,” he smiled. When he saw the intense look on Stevo’s face his smile faded a bit. “What’s wrong, Seb?”

Stevo stepped back from Jeff and took something out of his back pocket. Going down on one knee, he took Jeff’s hand and looked into his eyes.

“I love you, Jeff Mitchell, and I can’t imagine my life without you.  Would you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”

Jeff looked from Stevo to the ring and back, tears gushed down his face as he pulled Stevo up from the floor. Gazing into his eyes, and not trusting himself to speak, all he could do was nod before  throwing himself into his partners embrace.
