Money Makes the World Go Round

The peace of the Glen was shattered as the heavy truck wound its way slowly towards the town square. It was equipped with a heavy duty crane on the back, and in front of the crane was a huge safe, securely chained and strapped in place.

Max stood by the stone shell of his unfinished bank. There was no roof on the new building as yet, making the installation of the safe a lot easier as it would be hoisted in place before the roof section was completed.

"G’Day, mate," the driver called out to Max. "Where do you want this baby?"

"Morning," Max replied. "We’re thinking of the back right hand corner, but if the left is easier for you to place it, then that’s just as good, it’s just an empty shell right now so we can build around the safe."

"Ripper," the driver replied jumping down from the cab." Let’s have a look see and I’ll let ya know where she’s gonna end up."

They both went inside the building and the driver looked around. "This is nice, kinda rustic with the stone rather than brick. I think I can set her down in the back right corner for you. Much easier having an empty space, mate. I wish all my drops were as easy as this one. We’ll be done in two ticks."

True o his word, the safe was in place in about 15 minutes. Max was delighted as he expected the operation to take most of the morning. He was waving the driver off before most of the residents were up and about.

He turned as he heard the musical tinkle of a bell, and watched Ceri cycle towards him and jump off her bike. "I couldn’t wait, Max. I needed to come and see how it was going."

"It’s all done, my sweet," Max told her, giving her a good morning hug.

"Wow, that was fast. I didn’t hear the truck arrive."

"That’s a surprise, it wasn’t the quietest in NSW," Max laughed. "Come on in and take a look."

"Very impressive, Max. Now the roof can go on."

"Yes, and after that the fun begins with the interior. I’m glad that we waited to start; it made getting the safe in place so much easier. I can’t wait for the builders to start the internal stuff. I hope everyone loves the design."

"I can’t see how they wouldn’t, Max. Our very own old fashioned bank. 19th century look meets 21st century technology. This is going to be so much fun.
