Accidental Discovery

Libby Tyler

As Libby drove toward Coffs in her little Toyota, she sang along with the radio and thought about last night. Richie had stopped by her apartment around nine, saying he was just leaving work. The swelling in his jaw had gone down in the last few days and his split lip had been healing nicely.

Libby had just been about to eat dinner--spaghetti--and she'd fixed him a plate. He'd eaten the salad, spaghetti and breadsticks with obvious gusto, which Libby had thoroughly enjoyed. She'd never been much for cooking and seeing someone eat the way he did was a great compliment.

They'd talked some over dinner, Richie still worrying over his altercation with Travis McGee and the things Miss Peeg had said to him afterward. Libby had done her best to be supportive and make him feel better about himself. It was what she felt she ought to do as a friend.

Of course, though, both of them being who they were, things had ended up in bed. Or rather, on her sofa. At least, it had started there. Libby grinned to herself at the memory. At some point, however, they had ended up on the floor and not by choice!

Sex with Richie was just so darn much fun! She'd never known that the act itself could be so enjoyable when you weren't worried about the feelings and emotions behind it.

Still grinning and humming and thinking about Richie and last night, Libby was almost in Coffs when she rounded a steep curve. Barely in time, she saw the huge truck crossing the line into the middle of the road. She screamed and swerved.

Concerned, the nurse stopped outside the door of the young blonde woman. Inside the hospital room, Libby Tyler was still crying uncontrollably. Stepping into the room, the nurse went over to the side of her bed and poured a glass of water.

Taking Libby's hand, she attempted to hand her the glass. "You need to stop crying, sweetie," she told the young woman. "Otherwise, the doctor will have to sedate you again. I know you don't want that."

She felt so sorry for Libby. The girl had been lucky. She hadn't been hurt that badly, despite the damage to her car. Some bruises and scrapes, including bruised ribs where her seat belt had caught her. Other than that, she'd been able to walk to the ambulance herself.

Libby didn't feel very lucky at the moment. It was true that she had walked to the ambulance, had even called it herself. It was after they had run tests in the emergency room that she had found out the extent of the damage. She'd been crying since then.

"Sweetie." The nurse was talking to her again. "Are you sure there's no one I can call for you? Please, if there's anyone, tell me. You need someone with you. You need some support."

Finally, Libby looked up at the woman with her red-rimmed eyes. "Richie Roberts," she said. "Call Richie Roberts. In the Glen."
