Back Home

It was Charlie Prince who drove into Sydney to pick up Ben and Liana when they returned home. Excited as Liana was to get back to the Glen, she wished it had been Dan, or that he had sent one of the other men to get them. From the time of their first meeting, she had never stopped being nervous of Charlie.
Whenever she was anywhere around him, she could feel his eyes on her. He watched her constantly. It was something she'd never mentioned to Ben. Her husband had enough to worry about. Liana simply avoided Charlie as best she could, and ignored him when avoidance wasn't possible.
With Prince driving, Ben sat in the front passenger seat and Liana in the back. At least she knew she was safe with Ben here. Right now, in spite of Charlie's presence, she was happy. They were home. They were married and they had a baby on the way. She could hardly wait until they were back in their own house.
Ignoring the looks she could see Charlie Prince occasionally giving her in the rear view mirror, Liana talked with Ben about what they would do when they got back. She needed to check on all her plants and flowers and water them. Thank-you notes had to be sent out for the wedding gifts.
"And don't forget," she told Ben teasingly. "We have to go over to Steve and Millie's and see little Benjamin."
"Oh, I ain't forgot that." Ben grinned at her over his shoulder from the front seat. "You know that's what the big teddy bear in the back is for. And we have got the doll for Brook, don't we? Wouldn't wanna leave her out."
"Never knew you to be so crazy about kids, Boss," Charlie remarked quietly.
"Guess it's different when you helped deliver one," said Ben. Glancing into the back seat, he gave Liana a smile. "Not to mention when you know you've got one on the way yourself."
Surprised, Charlie looked into the rear view mirror again. Liana Wade was smiling happily--almost glowing--at her husband. So that was part of the reason the two of them had been grinning since he'd picked them up.
"Well-" Charlie said, forcing a smile to his lips that he was far from feeling. "Congratulations, Boss. Ma'am."
"Thank you, Charlie," Ben said, beaming. "You're the first one here to find out about it."
Charlie was quiet the rest of the long ride to the Glen. He'd had plans for Mrs. Wade when they returned. If there was a baby on the way now, they'd have to be carried out sooner than he'd intended. He had some things to arrange when they got to the Glen.
