News Travels Far

By M and Bridgid

He was so impulsive sometimes and that was one of the many things Bridgid loved about Jack. Yes, it was obvious that he was marrying her to sate her but he really wouldn't do it if he didn't want to as well.

Just as she kissed him, her trousers that lie on the deck began to vibrate.

"It's my cell phone." Bridgid rumbled as she stepped back to retrieve it. How it survived the plunge into the briney, she'd have no idea but it did.

Fetching it from her pocket she answered. Her eyes were fixed on Jack as Joi gave her the news. It took a few minutes and when she closed the phone she was pretty upset.

"Jack. We have to go home, There was a murder in the Glen. I never thought anything like that would happen. It was that young woman Hando brought to the wedding. She was Ahnna's sister."

The look in her eyes told him she was serious, and suddenly so was he. All business now he tied back his hair. "Up anchor madam, I'll turn her around."
"Very well. I secure the other boat and we'll be on our way."

There was silence as the lines were secured and the anchor was weighed. Bridgid really didn't know what to say. She was filled with sadness over the young woman's death and there was a modicum of fear to deal with too.  The Glen was their place, their haven and now it had been sullied somewhat. She didn't have all of the details of the murder but Joi did tell her that John had taken care of the perp in a shootout on the Meridus' property. It sucked, big time and she was worried about John over this too.

Once they were under way she got dressed and grabbed her cell again. "I should call Jason. He may be still in Sydney.

"Bridgid, I think you should call the sheriff, get his view on things, then call your brother."

In his head Jack was mulling over the possibilities. That the Glen should see a murder this early in it's history irked him... He respected Biebe and had no doubt that he would leave no stone unturned to ensure justice was served but, were there incomers, strangers, who would have have The Glen crumble before it had hardly started?

"Joi told me that the sheriff put himself on administrative leave. Under those circumstances, I would rather talk to him in person but Jason should know. He's bringing Emma back to the Glen and I don't want them to get the news as a slap in the face when they arrive.

She made the call to Jason and he took the news coldly. This worried Bridgid even more. She hoped it wouldn't change his mind about staying around at the Glen.

She pocketed her phone and stood silent for a moment. The sound of her leased vessel coming against one of the bumpers distracted her for a moment and she went to give a little slack to the lines.

Returning to the main deck, Bridgid stood next to Jack. "I'll make some lunch for us. Couple of sandwiches or something and some tea. It'll be a few hours before we're back but we should make it in time for the funeral."

"I shall take tea but no sandwiches, if the wind holds we shall be home in four hours."

Jack put his arm around the woman he loved more than life. "What does this mean for you my love? You do know if you had not come after me the situation would not be different"

He could see it in her eyes, the doubt, she stood for life and a life had been lost.
