The Homecoming

by Marie

Ashley looked excitedly out the window as their plane landed.  Lachlan had her hand held firmly in his.  There was a big grin on his face.  She felt her face flush.  Just that look on his face made her heart leap in her chest.  She loved him so much.

They were newlyweds, but had already been through more in a short time than many couples had in years.  And now they were moving home.  Away from her home in the United States, but to Lachlan's home of Australia.  She was eager to have this new land become hers.  For both Lachlan and for Ashley.

The miles of separation between she and her father would be good for both of them.  He'd tried to break the young couple up.  For some unfathomable reason to Ashley he hadn't felt Lachlan was good enough for her.  Here was this wonderful man who loved her with all his heart and wanted to make a terrific life for both of them.  He was a talented pilot.  Pampered Ashley like she was a precious princess.  How in the world could her father object?

It came down to the one thing that had always been obsessive for the elder Weston the III.  Money.  And Lachlan's lack of it compared to her fortune.  Lach hadn't even known of her fortune when they'd fallen in love.  He knew she had some money, but no idea how much until they'd married.  And he wouldn't touch it.  He wanted to make their fortunes together, not live on hers.  Her father really was a clueless man.  She doubted he would ever see what was really important in life.

Ashley was an optimist.  She'd never give up hope for him.  It was Edward Weston's to find.  She couldn't do it for him.  She knew where her life was leading her.  And she would be by Lachlan's side.  His smile was infectious.  A perpetual grin was stuck on her face as they taxied down the runway.  She could hardly sit still in her seat.

"Oh, Lachlan.  I can't believe we're really here.  We're home."  Her face tipped up toward him and her big blue eyes slipped shut as she waited for her first kiss in Australia as Mrs. Ashley Curry.
