Misplaced

Jim Braddock was frustrated. All he wanted to do was get through a training session without having to stop to look for something. Despite the fact everything to do with his training regimen was routine little things seemed to be amiss lately. He wasn't exactly sure when it started. He had been using his attic gym since they had moved in. But everything always had its place. Now things seemed to be developing feet. The towels, headgear and shoes had all been missing from their usual places only to be discovered later in odd spots throughout the room. He had finished his morning run and thought to work with the heavy bag only to find that his gloves had were Missing In Action. After they didn't turn up after a quick search of the gym he left exasperated.

"Ivy, Have you seen my gloves?" he called down the hallway as he reached the bottom of the attic stairs. "Aren't they upstairs?" she replied as she poked her head out of the bedroom where she was putting away laundry. "I wouldn't be asking if they were up there. Have you been upstairs lately? Moved anything?" his tone was serious. Closing the dresser drawer Ivy turned around to look at him as he stood in the bedroom doorway. "Upstairs? No. Jimmy, are you alright? It isn’t like you to misplace your equipment.”

“I swear I hung them up. I always do. Things have just been in strange places lately. I thought maybe you were up there.”

“Jimmy you take care of your gym equipment all I do is wash the towels and clothing you bring down. I don’t even take them up there I leave them in a basket on the bottom step. You know that.”

“Someone was up there. I seriously doubt your Uncle was up there so that leaves you and me. I know where things go so if you weren’t up there where does that leave us?”

Looking at her husband Ivy saw the confusion and the anger there. He was right though there really was no explanation for what he was describing…”Unless.”

“Unless what?” Jim asked. “Nothing.” She replied. “I’ll look around the house. I’m sure they’ll turn up. Just a matter of time.”

“Your right. Just let me get a shower and I’ll take you to lunch at Andy’s before we do the evening shift. OK?” he smiled at her as he headed to the bathroom.

Ivy walked out into the hall and to the door of Melanie’s room she turned the knob but didn’t open the door. “No. He just misplaced them.” She said aloud.
