Relative Arrival
Ian Michael Gabriel arrived in Coffs Harbor on an early morning flight. Throughout the trip he mulled over the conversation he had with his nephew before leaving. He knew things between his sister’s children were strained after the death of their father, but the possibility of things going as far as they had never occurred to him.
He still couldn’t get over the fact that Mark had no idea what was going on in
his sister’s life, and although Mark refused to discuss the reason behind the
break between them, Ian was relatively sure it had to do with Ivy’s recent
marriage. As he made his way to baggage claim he wondered if he would still
recognize his niece. It had been at least five years since he saw her at her
father’s funeral, realizing it had been that long he felt more than a little
guilty. He should have visited more, even if Mark and Ivy weren’t children any
longer, they were still family.
As he reached the baggage area he thought he heard his name being called. "Ian!"
Scanning the crowd Ian spotted Ivy waving to him. Smiling he thought to himself
that he would have recognized her anywhere.
