“Abby’s Visit”
“I’ll
just wait out here, give you some time alone with him,” Alex told Abby, as he
lit up a cigarette and leaned against the side of his car in the hospital
parking lot.
“Thanks,
Ross,” she replied, “I shouldn’t be long. I just want to make sure he’s okay
and, well, try and smooth things over a bit, if that’s possible.”
“Good
luck with that,” he smirked, watching as she headed into the sliding glass doors
of the hospital entranceway.
Once she found out what room he was in, Abby quickly made her way up the elevator and down a series of hallways until she found herself standing outside of Colin’s door.
Taking a deep breath, she readied her self for what was to come.
“Colin?”
Abby said, quietly, as she slowly entered his room. He appeared to be sound
asleep, and she wasn’t sure if she really wanted to wake him or not.
As she crept closer to his bed, she noticed his eyes were now open slightly,
staring right at her. Abby reached out put her hand gently on his, tears forming
in the corners of her eyes.
“Oh
Colin, I’m so, so sorry, sweetheart,” she sobbed, “I didn’t mean for this to
happen to you. You must think I’m a cruel monster for what I did to you this
morning. I’m so sorry, I can explain everything... it’s all a bit of a mess.”
Colin let out a loud sigh, his lips parted, as if he were about to say
something to her, but then closed his eyes again.
“Can’t
hear a word you say, dear,” a female voice from behind her suddenly said, giving
her a startle. Abby quickly turned around, saw the nurse standing behind her,
Colin’s medical charts in her hand. “Most likely doesn’t even know you’re here,
either.”
“Um...
why? What’s wrong with him? I was under the assumption it was just a broken
leg.”
“Meds,”
she replied, simply. “Whole mess of them running through his system about now.
Pain was terrible for the poor lad. He had to undergo surgery earlier today.
Just got out of recovery a bit ago. ‘Fraid he won’t be comin’ ‘round for a while
yet. Best just let him rest. I’m sure he’ll be up to a visit in the morning.”
With that said, the nurse placed Colin’s chart back on the outside of his door
and went down the hallway to check on another patient.
“Oh
Colin,” Abby sighed, wiping away her tears. “Please forgive me.”
She kissed her fingertips and gently pressed them to his lips, then turned and left the room.
