“All the Pieces in Place”
Alex had been on the phone all morning, tracking down a printing press in the
Coff’s area. Money was no object, Sid had told him, and when the last press he
had lined up fell through, he decided to just go all out and order a new one.
After some finagling, he’d managed to get the owner to drive it down and set it
up for him the next day. Problem with that was he had yet to sign the lease for
the new office space, so he’d had to get up early and drive over to the
realtor’s office and get that taken care of.
He’d promised Sid he’d have the first edition of the paper out by the end of
the week and that’s what he aimed to do. He’d been chatting up quite a few of
the locals in town already, getting leads on a few of the stories he’d heard,
tracking down the sources to make sure they checked out. With this kind of paper
it was always good to make sure you crossed your t’s and dotted your i’s. He
sure didn’t want anyone saying he hadn’t done his homework, not in this town,
not with the competition he had with the Times.
Now that all the pieces were falling into place, Alex could sleep a little better at night. Heck, maybe he’d even be able to sleep a lot better – get outta this two-bit inn he’d been floppin’ at and put down some dough on his own little spread outside town. Yep, things were sure lookin’ up.
