Alone in the Castle”

Kate watched as Sid left on one of his daily walks... again. She sighed, wishing some day he might invite her to go along, though she knew he never would. That was his special time alone and she had to respect his wishes.

She set the book she’d been reading aside, marking the spot where she’d left off in it. Sid had given her loads of books on nearly every subject, as well as every volume of classic literature – more books than she’d possibly ever find time to read, or want to read, for that matter.

He’d told her that as lovely as she was, her education was a bit... lacking. And, as her husband, he said it was his job to help see to it that she get as much education as her little mind would allow.

Once he was town’s mayor – as surely he would be – they’d be in the public eye more often, and she didn’t want to embarrass him by her lack of knowledge on certain topics amongst the more cultured crowd.

Of course, the man’s insatiable appetite for sex kept her pretty busy most days and nights, so she only ever found time to read when he’d go out on one of his walks. She smiled, thinking about all the new ways he was always coming up with pleasing her (and himself) in the bedroom, and wondered what new surprises he’d have in store for her once he’d returned home.

But now, she was bored. Bored of reading, bored of watching the clouds roll by, bored, bored, bored! She spent so much time with her husband that she’d never really made any close friends of her own in The Glen. And those that she had spent time with at parties and such seemed to keep their distance from her for some reason.

Jealousy, is what Sid had told her it was, and not to worry over such inferior folk as them, anyway. But still, Kate missed having a real friendship outside of her marriage, longed for female companionship. Someone to gossip with, lunch and shopping... real girl-time. Somehow, even if she did happen to make a friend, she wasn’t so sure Sid would approve of her leaving the house without him. Anytime she’d mentioned going out he’d always insisted on coming along.

Kate yawned, looked down at her diamond-encrusted Cartier watch. He’d be home any minute, she knew – he always was prompt. She bent down and zipped up her thigh-high Italian-leather black boots and pulled off her negligee, then slowly walked downstairs and stood in the doorway – naked, except for the boots, and waited for her husband’s return home, as he had requested - eager to please him, as always.
