“Blowin’ Off Some Steam”
The ride home from their meeting with Reverend Harris had been quite tense.
After questioning the Reverend’s decision to have the couple wait a few months
or so to renew their wedding vows, Dwayne put on his best smile and nodded to
the man, then thanked him for his time. He’d wanted nothing more than to explode
right then and there and found it incredibly difficult not to do so. However,
losing his cool would only send Abby packing again, and that wasn’t going to
happen... not in this lifetime, not if he had something to say about it.
All the way home he’d kept in the rage he was feeling... deep within him,
feeling it bubble just near enough to the edge that he knew it was only a matter
of time until it had to be freed. He’d planned on surprising Abby with the new
house he’d bought for her to share with him here in the Glen, but now wasn’t the
time. He glanced over at her sitting next to him in the car – she seemed happy.
Now why would she be...happy? No, there’d be time for surprises later... right
now all he wanted to do was get the hell away from Abby as quickly as possible
so he could find an outlet for his rage.
After dropping her off at the boarding house, Dwayne sped off to the house,
slamming the front door shut behind him. With a primal roar, he dashed off to
the back of the house to the indoor gym he’d had installed. Over to the large
bag he went, imagining that each thrust of his fist impacted the face of his
enemy... a face he wanted nothing more than to rip to shreds.
BAM! BAMBAM! “Stupid fucker thinks he can steal my wife does he...” BAM!
BAMBAM! “When I’m done with him he’ll wish all he had was a broke leg!” BAM!
BAMBAM! “Dumb grease-monkey has the whole town against me, apparently!” BAM!
BAMBAM! “Well, Mr. O’Brien, you’d best watch your back cuz I’m not just gonna
roll over and let you have your way...not with my wife!” BAM! BAMBAM!
When he was done, when all the rage had been emptied, he showered and fell back onto his bed. There were plans to be made, big plans, and now that he could think clearly again, he was back on track to achieving his goal... Abby.
