How Did it All Go So Wrong?”

Colin lay back in his bed, thinking about the day’s events and life in general. How had his life gotten so completely fucked up? When he’d moved to The Glen, he was happy, truly happy, possibly for the first time in his life. He had a second chance at both life and love, a second chance at owning his own business. He and Kate had been so in love, at least that’s what he though, anyway, before she left him for Sid.

Colin let out a sigh, looked over at the clock next to him – 2:20am. He lit up a cigarette, took a long drag, blew out the smoke. He’d heard his brother-in-law, Adam, stumbling through the door moments before and wondered if everything was going to be okay between him and Raine. As her big brother, he naturally felt it his place to protect her. Something was going on with Adam and he intended to find out just what that something was before his sister got hurt.

Raine was right about one thing, the two of them were unlucky in love. He’d thought going to see Abby earlier that day was a good thing, maybe show her how he still cared about her, but she’d pushed him away once more. He decided not to push her, let her be. Besides, there was still that little matter of Kate and her baby to be concerned about. He hadn’t spoken to her or even seen her in a couple months but she was never completely out of his thoughts. The thought of that...that...wedge-headed bastard, Sid, raising his child completely mortified him.

Of course, Kate still was claiming the baby was Sid’s, but Colin felt in his heart that he was the true father and first chance he got he’d have a little chat with the town solicitor to find out just what rights he had and how to go about getting a DNA test done.

He took one last puff off the ciggie, put it out, and rolled over on his side. Tomorrow he’d get Adam to drive him into town, talk to Richie Roberts if he was available. He needed peace of mind before he could go forward with his life.
