"Losing Her"

Colin watched out the window as Kate paced back and forth in front of their house. She had plans to meet Sid tonight at his house for a bit of star-gazing or whatever the fuck he had planned for her there. Just an excuse to get her into his lair, Colin thought. He let out a sigh. He was losing her to that prick in Armani – he knew it, and there didn’t seem to be anything he could do to prevent it.

Colin had told Kate earlier that night that if she cared anything about him, if she cared about their relationship, she wouldn’t insist on meeting Sid tonight. He’d even gone as far as to tell her that he’d pack her bags and leave them on the front porch if she went. There was no reasoning with her, though, and instead of apologizing and canceling her ‘date’, she actually stormed out of the house and immediately called someone on her cell...presumably Sid.

As he continued to watch Kate through the cracked curtains, he couldn’t help but wonder what was going through her mind. Was she having second thoughts? Would she suddenly run back into the house and into his arms? He prayed that was the case, doubtful as it may be. She’d always been quite independent and never one to be told what to do. He knew that and tried to give her the freedom and respect she desired, but now....he just couldn’t let her go like this...not when their relationship was on the line.

Just then, Kate turned back towards the window and their eyes met. His heart pounded and he quickly shut the curtains and took a step back and closed his eyes. Breathing hard and fighting back the tears that were starting to well up inside of him, Colin moved towards the front door, putting one hand on the knob – ready to run out to her and scoop her up in his arms and carry her back into the house with him. Just as he was turning the doorknob, he heard a car drive up and then a door slam shut. Damn. Sid. He was too late, she was gone. A shudder went through his body and Colin began to quietly sob. She left. She really did it.

"Oh, Kate...Kate," he sighed aloud to himself, then turned and slowly walked up the stairs to the bedroom and began packing her suitcases.
