"Some Nerve"

Abby walked downstairs to the front desk of the inn, retrieved her mail, then slowly walked into the tavern to have a cup of tea. As she sat, sipping her tea, she began to rifle through her mail, when something got her attention – an invitation.

"Hmm... surely she didn’t include me of all people on her guest list," Abby mused, slipping the fancy ribbon off the envelope and taking out the card inside.

Her mouth dropped when she realized that’s exactly what Kate had done... sent a party invite to her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend.

"Oh, that woman has got some nerve!" Abby said out loud, catching the attention of a couple sitting at the next table.

Stuffing the invitation back into the envelope, she quickly gathered up the rest of her mail and headed back up stairs to call Colin. Once in her room, she slammed the door and flopped down on her bed, angrily dialing Colin’s number on her cell phone. After a few rings, he finally picked up.

"Colin... you won’t believe what I just got in the mail!" she exclaimed, upon hearing his voice. "What?!" she nearly screamed again, "That...that...wench....actually sent you an invitation, too?! Is she mad?!"

Abby quickly jumped up off the bed and began pacing back and fourth as she listened to what Colin was saying.

"Ohhhh...noooo...you are NOT going to THAT party, mister! If I have to tie you down and keep you hostage until the whole thing is over... how could you even THINK of doing such a thing?!"

She stopped pacing suddenly and the corners of her lip curved up into a smile. "You tease," she giggled, then added, "It’s a date, mister. Gotta go...I’ll see you later...bye."

Hanging up the phone, Abby sighed, looked down at the invitation in her hand, then tossed it into the trash with a triumphant swoosh.
