“Still Stranded”
Dwayne lay awake on the couch of Alex’s room. He’d stared at the same spot on the ceiling for the past 2 hours now, unable to get Abby out of his mind. “Damn, that stupid mechanic is down the hall with her right now... spendin’ the night with my wife!” he thought to himself.
He looked over at Alex. “Sleepin’ like a baby,” he thought, grinning to
himself as he slowly sat up and pulled on shoes.
Not taking his eyes off the bed where Alex was laying, Dwayne stood and
tip-toed quietly past him towards the door to leave. Just as he reached the
door, he felt a hand reach out and grab him by the arm.
“Goin’ somewhere?” Alex asked, smirking up at him.
“Uh,
just need to stretch my legs a bit,” Dwayne replied.
“Hang
on, I’ll go with you,” Alex told him, sitting up and slipping on his pants and
shoes. “Wouldn’t want to you get lost or anything in the dark.”
“Gee,
thanks,” Dwayne said, glumly, as Alex followed him out of the room and down the
hallway.
“No
problem. Needed a smoke anyway, and seems the owners here frown on lightin’ one
up in the rooms,” Alex told him, as they headed down towards the dark stairway.
“Shit,” Dwayne thought to himself, as he passed by Abby’s empty room – the door still leaning against the wall where Colin had knocked it off its hinges earlier that night. She apparently had gotten another room, but which one? He sighed, as he and Alex headed down the stairs and out onto the front porch of the inn. The rain was still coming down pretty hard, so they finished their cigarettes fairly quickly and went back up to Alex’s room.
This is going to be one hell
of a long night, he thought to himself, as he lay back on the couch.
