The Rescue” – Part 1

You sure this is the place then?” Colin asked, nervously, looking around the pier for any sign of the police.

Yeah, positive,” Adam replied, pulling the car up behind an empty storage tanker and putting it in park. He pulled out a joint and began to light it up. Colin looked at him and quickly yanked it from his hand before he could get it lit.

What the fuck, mate?” Adam exclaimed, angrily.

Might I remind you that we’re trying to get your wife back here?!” Colin told him, “The last thing you need to be is any higher or any less coherent than you already are.”

Fine, fine,” Adam sighed, yanking it back and tucking it back inside his coat pocket and went about waiting for their contact to show.

So, what are we looking for then?” Colin asked him, after a moment.

Bloke should text once he’s arrived,” Adam told him, nervously fidgeting with his lighter. “He’ll give us the location, we’ll meet-up with him there, hand over the goods, and wait for further instructions.”

Further instructions?” Colin asked, “Like what? Does he know where Raine is being held?”

No, mate, he’s just the buyer,” Adam explained, “he has no clue what’s gone on with Raine. We’ll have to wait until the job is done before Dob will tell us where she’s being held. This bloke, the buyer... well, Dob says he may want us to accompany him back to his place until whatever it is he’s bought is there safe.”

Is this typical? I mean, what are we talking about here? Drugs? Weapons? What?”

Yes, and most likely... yes, and possibly... um... more.”

More? Like... what?” Colin asked, concerned.

Women, possibly... young girls... perhaps,” Adam told him, “Shit, I don’t know and I don’t wanna know. Dob didn’t exactly say, he just said that this was a special buyer and I should take extra special care when dealing with him, royal treatment and all that shite. I just want to get Raine back safe, that’s my top priority here.”

Agreed,” Colin told him, checking the rear-view mirror to make sure no one was sneaking up behind them. The last thing he needed was to be caught in the middle of a drug bust. He’d made his mistakes in the past, gotten involved in criminal activity, and he’d done his time for it. No way he was gonna make that mistake again if he could help it, but this was his baby sister they were trying to get back. He’d do anything and everything in his power to see to it that she was returned safely - even if that meant him breaking the law to do so.

He’s here,” Adam said, grimly, as his cell phone buzzed. “C’mon, let’s get going – we’re to meet him at freighter, I’ll need to sign for the delivery before he can take possession. He’s got a truck waiting at the end of the dock to drive the tanker to a secure location, and we’re to go with him there. That’s where the exchange will take place.”

Colin nodded, his jaw tightly clenched, as the pair made their way to the freighter.

Keep your cool, mate, let me do all the talking,” Adam told him, as they parked their car and headed towards the unloading dock. “I’ve done this before, know what’s expected. Just keep quiet and go along with what I say.”

Adam,” Colin whispered, before they came in earshot of any of the men unloading the cargo, “mate, I promise you this, if something does go wrong, and you somehow fuck this up...”

I won’t, I promise,” Adam told him, “You have no idea what Dob would do to me... or to Raine... if I did. Trust me, mate. We’re in this together.”

Colin nodded, watching silently as Adam greeted one of the men and signed for his cargo. He held his breath, wondering how the hell he’d gotten himself involved in all of this and hoping to God that they’d all make it out alive.
