“Thinking
Things Out”
Colin climbed into bed and lit up a cigarette. His mind was too full of all the events that had transpired in his life over the past couple of weeks to allow him to sleep. A week and a half had gone by since he’d kicked Adam and Raine out of his house and though he worried for his baby sister’s safety he couldn’t help but feel relieved at having his house back to himself again.
Adam had been none too happy about it, but Colin had insisted it was time they left. He’d suggested to Adam that he and Raine move into Millie’s Boarding House until they could get a place of their own. They’d be safe there, too, since he happened to know that they sheriff was still living in one of the rooms there. So far, so good.
He’d agreed to let Adam stay on at the garage for the time being. Colin was scheduled to get his cast removed the first week of the New Year and after that he’d have a think on whether or not to keep the lad on or not. Business was up but once Colin was back to work he wasn’t sure if it would be up enough to warrant keeping on an extra mechanic.
Then there was the little matter of his upcoming paternity suit. He planned on talking to the solicitor as soon as the holidays were over about his little slip-up in the hospital when he’d mentioned his intentions to Sid. Colin had no idea what Sid could legally do to prevent him from going forward with his plans but knowing that creep he’d stoop to anything to keep Colin away from his child.
He took one last drag off his cigarette and stumped it out in the ashtray next to his bed, wondering to himself if the new year would be any easier than this one had been for him.
Perhaps he’d give Amy a call, invite her over for a bit of fun. She was always good for a laugh or two... if she wasn't still mad at him, that is. He closed his eyes, smiling at the thought of spending time with her again.
