“Unwelcome Surprise”
Raine went to the kitchen, scanned the fridge and shelves, then quickly scribbled down the items she needed to buy on a slip of paper and shoved it in her purse. She looked at the phone, deciding on whether she would actually call Abby as Colin had suggested. The woman most likely would just hang up on her, she figured, and thought it best to just drop in on her instead.
She slung her purse over her shoulder and headed down the front porch towards Colin’s car. Dob had apparently followed them in his SUV, because it was no longer parked out front. She thought that a bit odd, but shrugged it off and slid into the driver’s seat.
As she put the key into the ignition, a hand reached around from the back seat and clamped tightly over her mouth, keeping her from screaming out. Terror-struck, she looked up into the rearview mirror, trying to get a look at who had grabbed her, but whomever it was had on a black ski-mask.
Raine struggled helplessly, trying her best to fight off her attacker. Her arms and legs flailed out wildly, but it was no use, the man held her firmly against the headrest. Suddenly, she felt a tiny prick in the side of her neck and everything went black.
