"Calling Destiny"

Zack headed out of Millie’s and out into town. He’d just finished reading the morning edition of the Times and was devastated to find out about Alistair’s current condition. Didn’t sound too promising, he’d thought. Tragic.

Maybe it was because Alistair was the first person he had met here, or maybe it was the fact that the good Reverend Harris seemed to have touched so many lives in this community. Whatever it was, the thought of losing such a giving, caring and important member of the community weighed on his heart.

He’d placed a $20 in the donations jar Andy had set up on the bar in the tavern after he’d finished his breakfast, but still, Zack felt like there should be more he could do for the man.

He wandered down the street, deep in thought. He’d heard talk that Maximus and some others were busy rebuilding the room that had been destroyed from the fire, and he wondered if they needed a hand there. He could swing a hammer, after all, with the best of ‘em. Later, maybe he’d wander on by and see what he could do to lend a hand.

Right now, however, he had something important to do that he’d been putting off since he first arrived in Australia. Pulling out his cell phone, he slowly dialed the number. One ring....two...then, "Hello?"

Zack hesitated for a moment, cleared his throat. The female voice asked again, "Hello? Who is this?"

"Umm...Destiny?"

"Yeah, who wants to know?" she asked.

Zack closed his eyes, ran his hand over his bearded chin. "It’s me, Grant. I...um... I need to see you."

TBC....
