"Sad Bit of News"

The morning had started out like any other for Arthur – he woke up early, showered and dressed, then headed out downstairs to the tavern for a bit of brekkie before work.

This morning, however, as Arthur greeted Andy and was about to take a seat, he couldn’t help but notice the large pickle jar that had been placed on the counter of the bar. The sign on it read, "For Alistair Harris and Ahnna", and had a bit of money in it.

He was just about to ask Andy what this was all about, when he glanced down and saw the headline on the morning paper – "Fire at the Mill".

Arthur’s heart sank. "How could this be?" he wondered to himself. Still reading the paper, he took his coffee and sank quietly into one of the seats in the far corner of the tavern.

It seems the good Reverend Harris has been struck with tragedy yet again, only this time was his life that was in jeopardy. He had just seen Alistair at the Wade Wedding mere days earlier, had even spoken to him about how much he enjoyed the ceremony. No, this couldn’t be... this just wasn’t right.

Arthur let out a quiet sob and brushed back a few tears. Deciding to skip his brekkie, he quietly stood up, thanked Andy, and headed over to the chapel to help Alistair the only way he knew how – through prayer. Yes, surely Alistair would need all the prayer he could get.
