Working it Out
Toni hung up the phone, her parents were coming in three weeks and staying
until after Christmas. Her brother, Jude and his wife Carol would also be
coming. Her head was in a spin in four weeks she was to be married and
except for a plot of ground, nothing else had been planned.
Ivy, she must get hold of Ivy having just been married maybe she would be
able to help her.
“Ivy, I need some help.”
“What kind of help Toni, what can I do?”
“The wedding is in four weeks and I’ve done nothing, Ivy except pick a
place. I wanted to get married outside that’s why it’s coming on so fast,
I’m trying to stay with the weather.”
“Get yourself a wedding planner Toni, that’s what I did.”
“It’s not going to be a big flashy affair, you know, not like the last one
that didn’t happen. Do you think Jim could drop you by here for a little
while, maybe two heads and a pot of coffee can come up with something?
Richie is working out maybe Jim might want to join him.”
Several hours later and a break for lunch, Toni and Ivy had come up with a
list.
“It looks like I’m going to be busy,” said Toni going over the list, “I
wish…I wish you were going to be here Ivy, I don’t suppose there’s anyway
you and Jim could extend your honeymoon for a couple more weeks?”
After Ivy and Jim left Toni was still making notes.
“What are you doin’?” Asked Richie reaching for a beer in the fridge
“It’s a battle plan Richie at least Ivy gave me a few ideas. I’m gonna have
to be careful here or this thing will grow legs.”
“Grow legs,” he laughed and sat down, “let me see what you’ve got there.”
Richie moved the legal pad over and had a look, “you’re gonna invite the
whole town are you crazy?”
“Well, I thought it might be a way to meet our neighbors, it’s a small
community otherwise there won’t be anybody there.”
“How many people do you need Toni, you…me…and a preacher.”
Toni looked up and sighed, “you think I’m being silly don’t you wanting a
wedding at my age?”
“Oh no babe, it’s a special day for both of us and especially for you, it’s
the bride’s day anyway you do what you want.”
“I want it to be for both of us not just what I want. You’ve been through
this before and I almost did. I just want it to be special, something to
remember, so years from now we can say ‘remember the day we got married and
so and so happened?’ you see what I mean?”
“I know what you mean Toni, ignore me…I know somebody that can take photos,
Steve from the Tavern used to be a photographer. Jack Aubrey plays a violin
maybe he knows somebody in a string…quartet…hey I’m helpin’ here!”
“Well here, put a little tic by those things, now food…find a caterer.”
“Ask Andy, he’s doin’ a bang up job at the Tavern, he might know somebody.
Oh, Steve said we could use that area above the Tavern and parking would be
no problem in their lot and there’s a place in Coffs that rents tents and
chairs and stuff.”
Toni sat back in her chair and smiled, “so you were leaving it all up to me
huh?”
“Hey, it’s my wedding too ya know. I know some people,” he laughed.
