Cooking up a Wedding
The kitchen was popping, Andy was preparing the food for the wedding, lunch was full on and Millie and Lucy were running into each other.
"I need another chicken salad plate," called Millie pulling out a plate and placing it on the prep table.
Lucy set the bowl of chicken salad on the table and pointed to the lettuce. She was busy on the grill.
Andy had the tiny new potatoes roasted with garlic and rosemary and tossed them with a bit of olive oil. He wiped his hands and picked up his list. Green bean bundles…he ran to the roaster to check on the beef tenderloins…everything was coming along. He was focused in, and the whirlwind around him didn’t penetrate.
"Andy, Andy…" Lucy tried again, "Andy what do you with the sauce for the pork cutlets?"
He raised his head; "Marsala add a dash…" he was busy wrapping whole beans with bacon.
Later he walked out back for a ciggie and a break. The tent was up and he went through deciding how he was going to arrange the food. Mrs. Stanley had placed the flower arrangements in the center of the tables so he knew what space he had to work with. They would need a cake table, he made a mental note to bring one out and find a tablecloth to fit.
He was grateful for the extra cash Richie had pressed on him this morning, knowing the original down payment for the catering had gone up in smoke. Richie had been generous with extra for Lucy. He needed to check with Colin and find out what caused the wreck.
Lucy poked her head in the tent; "The cake’s here, want to set it on the prep table?"
"Yeah, but leave room," putting out his cigarette he headed back inside. Sometime before 4:00 he and Lucy had to shower and change into black slacks and white shirts. That was his idea. Lucy laughed saying they would like waiters, but Andy thought it would look professional.
Lucy’s tarts and fancies were in the cooler she just needed to pipe some cream and place some raspberries. Her face was dusty with powdered sugar; she was shaking cookies in a bag. Andy walked by and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek.
"You’re sweet Lucy, always taste sweet."
Lucy grinned, "Good thing you have a sweet tooth."
