An Enterprising Young Woman
"Aun-tie! I can't believe what you just did. Walked right in and hired yourself!"
"Amanda, opportunity knocked and I opened. How could I not?"
"But have you ever worked for a lawyer before?"
"Hmm I don't believe so. How hard could it be? I've worked all over the world for some very demanding men. In jobs I had to scramble to cover myself...I have no fear. I can handle the job. Besides, the poor man needs help. I really liked what he said about hate not touching the things that matter."
"He did seem very nice...does that mean that we're stopped?"
"Oh I should think so...we shall have to look around for a suitable residence. One can't continue to board."
They had reached the boarding house and went inside for a cup of tea.
Andy came to their table with...help.
"Oh my. Is this your child?" asked Amanda
"Uh no, she belongs to Steve and Millie...kinda attached herself to me, this is Brookie."
"Shes adorable...but who looks after her...you?"
"Um...I think we all do. What can I get you?"
"Tea of course, and any good biscuits you may have handy." said Miss Peeg with a smile.
"Right, back in a jif." Andy walked back to the kitchen, Brookie running after him,
"You know Auntie, it's rather dangerous. That small infant on her own, and in the kitchen where things are hot and busy."
"Ye-sss...what are you thinking?"
"Well you know I do have my certificate...I might just suggest myself as a babysitter or perhaps once we find a place of our own, a day school. What do you think?"
"I think you are my niece after all, a very enterprising young woman. Ah here's tea. Thank you young man!"
